Aptos is a Layer 1 blockchain built using the Move programming language, originally developed for Meta's Diem project. Founded by former Meta engineers Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, Aptos focuses on safety, scalability, and user experience. The blockchain employs a parallel execution engine called Block-STM that processes transactions concurrently, achieving high throughput without requiring developers to declare data dependencies upfront. Aptos uses a Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) consensus mechanism and features a modular architecture that allows individual components to be upgraded without disrupting the rest of the system. The Move language provides resource-oriented programming with strong safety guarantees, making smart contract development more secure.
